Multiple SYMLAFA fashion designer nominee Melissa Poulton, recently answered the call by many for a designer emporium in Namibia when she opened The DEN, a boutique where designers can sell and showcase their collection.
This shop is a first of its kind in Namibia and is a big step for the ever-growing Namibian fashion industry. When asked in an exclusive interview with Simply You Magazine, Poulton said she wanted to open the store for Namibian designers can sell their products in a retail space.
February 8 2020 was the official opening to the public, the boutique is situated in Windhoek city-centre on 40 Tal Street, Brewers Market (Old Warehouse theater).
Poulton encourages designers who are interested in selling their garments to contact her and request for an application form. Designers can then proceed to rent a rail for three months, paying N$500 for each month. After the three months, the prices then start to fluctuate depending on whether the size of the collection grows or becomes smaller. It’s all up to the designer.
The boutique is a wonderful initiative for the Namibian fashion scene as it allows the locals to purchase the beautiful and fashion forward garments we see on the runways.
